Ayra and I have planned since January to bake a special Barbie cake for her birthday party cum Nell’s majlis bercukur. Her dad even went online to download a video from You Tube on how to make a Barbie cake. Judging from the step by step instruction, I was pretty much confident to carry out the task. So there I was, baking 3 butter cakes: one in a 6in bowl, the other in a 7in and 8in round tray.
But much to my disappointment, the cake was a total disaster. Instead of having a nice dome shaped like a normal cake does after getting out of the oven, mine just went flat, a complete concave and burnt out right at the middle (wish I had the photo taken then). I just couldn’t figure it out what happened during the process. Was I over-beating the batter? Did I miss some important ingredient? *sigh*.. Took me hours to convince poor Ayra of getting a ready made cake instead. Finally she gave in, with one condition. “Kek mesti ada muka kmk atasnya…”
So, with a spare edible image of our pictures (thank God!), I purchased a plain white choc macadamia cake from Secret Recipe and decorated it myself. With time constraint, I managed to stick the image, put some colorful candles and 2 little sugar dolls that resembles both Ayra and her lil brother Nell. To be honest, I hate the cake (it was Ayra’s choice) but I like the whole deco that we did within 30mins time. Phew!!
We initially decided to organize this function end of June, supposedly combine with Ayra’s bday. But since I was frequently on travel during that month, the only available date was 4th July (Saturday). Preparation was done a week prior to event, with my hands full with the cake, fancy cookies and goody packs for the kids. I just love bday parties. It got me on my toes all day long. Just look at how big Nell’s eyes were staring at the candles!
